Farmers from Broome and Chenango County visited Albany to discuss a few important issues.  They advocated to include more money for bridges and infrastructure repairs and updates in this year's Budget.  They also support more investment in broadband high-speed internet for rural communities in our region and oppose a minimum wage increase.

During the visit, they presented the Senator's 2014 Circle of Friends Award from the Farm Bureau.

Music teachers lobby for increased funding and fair evaluations.
Local music teachers traveled to Albany on behalf of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) to discuss the importance of music education.

The teachers voiced concerns over the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) and the negative role of standardized testing on their reviews.

They also advocated for ending the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) - something Senator Libous has been working on since its beginning. The GEA has been taking money away from local schools since 2009 and was put in place by Governor Paterson.

Senator Libous' Chief of Staff, Jim Thomas (far left), listens to local library advocates.
Librarians from the Four County Library System and the Finger Lakes Library System, and some of their patrons, visited the Capitol to seek increased funding for the important roles played by our local libraries.

This year, the Systems want to be funded at $102.6 million Statewide.  Last year, they received $86.6 million in State funding.

Now more than ever, libraries offer crucial safety-net services to those who don't have access to a computer or broadband.

Senator Libous has been an ardent supporter of local libraries through his BOOKS Program that encourages kids to read and provides content and programming grants.
